I have a lot of anxiety that I’ve seen it mostly arises from work-related issues and thinking about the future. Anxiety usually kicks in the mornings and also late at night in bed.
When my anxiety spikes, I used to tend to seek comfort foods that are not exactly healthy. It’s what called emotional eating. Other times, my stomach gets queasy and appetite just vanishes completely, making me forego meals, which is also unhealthy.
Nowadays, I’ve found that drinking green smoothies for anxiety actually helps a ton! In fact, I can drink one green smoothie alone for breakfast and it keeps me full and in good mental state at least the whole day.
What’s included in these green smoothies is of course fresh fruits and vegetables but also superfoods that are known to be good for the nervous system. These include:
- Ashwagandha – helps reduce anxiety, improve mood and fight depression
- Turmeric – has a protective effect on the brain and nervous system, boosts both dopamine (feel good) & serotonin (happiness) hormones
- Kava kava – has long been used in the Pacific for its stress-relief properties and calming effects on nervousness and erratic moods

Here are 2 green smoothies for stress and anxiety:
Anti-Anxiety Green Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 cup of spinach
- 1 red apple
- 1 ripe banana
- ½ lemon
- ½ teaspoon ashwagandha powder (where to get it)
- 1 cup of water
- 2 pitted medjool dates (where to get it)
- High speed blender (where to get it)
Directions
- Wash all fresh produce.
- Chop the apple and banana into chunks.
- Add the chunks into a high speed blender together with the ashwagandha powder and two pitted medjool dates.
- Now squeeze juice from ½ lemon into the blender.
- Blend till smooth and lumpless.
- Add 1 cup of water and blend again for a few seconds.
- Pour into a tall glass or jar and enjoy!
Creamy Breakfast Smoothie
Ingredients
- ½ cup kale
- ½ cup spinach
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 cup dairy or non-dairy milk of choice like almond milk, coconut milk, etc
- ½ cup crushed ice
- ½ teaspoon kava kava powder (where to get it)
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder (where to get it)
- 2 teaspoons raw honey (where to get it)
- High speed blender (where to get it)
Directions
- Stuff your high-speed blender with ½ cup of freshly washed kale and spinach leaves.
- Next, chop up a banana into 3 chunks and throw it in too.
- Add ½ teaspoon kava kava powder, ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder and 2 teaspoons of raw honey.
- Now add crushed ice and blend everything till smooth.
- Once smooth and lump-free, stop blending and add 1 cup of milk of your choice.
- Blend again for a few seconds until you reach a smoothie consistency.
- Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!
Note: To boost the bioavailability of turmeric, add a pinch of ground black pepper to your blender with the other ingredients before blending!
