Endo sucks. SO bad. Especially when it’s coupled with other disorders like IBS. But you know what? Now that we already have endometriosis, it’s time to start doing things to manage our endo symptoms better.
I can’t stress enough how amazing teas are for endometriosis. And it’s not just about the healing herbal content in teas – it’s also about their soothing warmth. Heat is one of the best remedies for endometriosis whether you use a hot water bottle or drink a steaming mug of goodness!
Herbal teas can help alleviate bloating, constipation, menstrual cramps, pelvic pain, inflammation, low mood and more. Let’s check out the top teas for endometriosis symptoms below:
6 Teas to Drink when You Have Endometriosis
1. Red Raspberry Leaf Tea
You’ve probably heard of red raspberry leaf tea before? No? Then I’ll explain how it’s magical for all things women’s health, let alone endometriosis:
First things first – red raspberry leaf tea is not to be confused with raspberry flavored tea! Nope, it comes from the leaves of the red raspberry plant.
For centuries, women have been using it to support digestive and uterine health especially during pregnancy, childbirth and during the childbearing years.
This special tea contains an alkaloid called fragrine which helps strengthen the uterus and pelvic region. It is also drank to ease painful menstrual cramps, ease menstrual discomfort, improve reproductive health and balance hormones to increase fertility.
Did I mention that red raspberry leaf tea is loaded to the brim with readily absorbable nutrients?! It contains vitamins A, B, C, E and minerals such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, phosphorous, zinc, iron, manganese and chromium.
Sip on this tea throughout your cycle to see your symptoms like cramps, pelvic pain and heavy flow not bothering you like before!
2. Ginger Tea
Ginger is another star tea for endometriosis. What makes it special is its powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
One of the active components in ginger called gingerol has been shown to fight inflammation in the body.
We NEED anti-inflammatory ingredients to fight endometriosis, which is aggravated by extra inflammation in our bodies.
The analgesic or pain-relieving properties of ginger are an all-natural option for fighting extreme pain that endometriosis brings.
By consuming steaming mugs of ginger tea throughout the day when you are in pain, you can reduce on the number of pain killers you pop in.
3. Turmeric Tea
Turmeric is another spice/herb good for endometriosis and one of the ways to consume it is by making turmeric tea!
This golden spice is known for its main compound curcumin that has been shown to possess strong anti-inflammatory properties that help prevent and reduce endo flare-ups.
Just like ginger (after all, they come from the same plant family), it also has anti-pain properties. In fact, I like combining these two herbs when making an endo-fighting tea because they make a tough duo in calming inflammation and pain.
Here’s my simple recipe: Boil about one mug of water. Then put in a one inch of scraped ginger. Next add ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder and a pinch of black pepper powder. Allow the mixture to steep for 3-5 minutes then strain into a mug and plop a lemon slice into it. If you want it to be sweet, add enough honey or agave nectar before adding the lemon slice. Stir and sip your soothing drink!
You can also just use turmeric tea bags, if you don’t have time.
4. Dandelion Tea
Dandelion is one of the master herbs when it comes to balancing female hormones.
As estrogen levels flare-up in the body, endometriosis symptoms tend to worsen because too much estrogen feeds endometriosis.
Dandelion helps detox excess estrogen from the liver which is very important when it comes to an estrogen-dependent disease like endometriosis.
Drinking dandelion tea also helps boost the immune system, which can help you manage endometriosis symptoms better and fight other infections.
Since the taste of dandelion tea is not exactly palatable for many people, here’s a tip – to your dandelion tea, throw in a little lemon and sweeten it with raw honey/natural sweetener to make it delish for your taste buds!
5. Peppermint Tea
I love peppermint for IBS but guess what – it’s also Ah-mazing for endometriosis symptoms.
The thing with peppermint tea is that it keeps your digestive system very happy. So if your suffering from endo bloat, get in the boat because peppermint is for you!
Peppermint relaxes the smooth muscles of the GI tract which alleviates abdominal pain.
The most important part is that it also eases uterine and pelvic pain because of its cooling, numbing and pain-relieving menthol content. So next time, try sipping some peppermint tea it for bloat, abdominal pain and menstrual cramps to feel relief.
6. Chamomile Tea
Lat but not least in this list of teas for endometriosis is none other than calming chamomile tea.
What makes chamomile special for endometriosis is that it said to reduce endometrial cells and its antispasmodic properties suppress muscle spasms that cause uterine contractions and cramps during menstruation.
It also reduces inflammation by inhibiting the production and intensity of inflammatory compounds in the body. Remember increased inflammation = worse endometriosis symptoms.
Ladies with endometriosis also find that drinking chamomile tea regularly tends to work wonderfully in alleviating their anxiety, depression and also insomnia.
