If you have severe anemia, you can have the above symptoms in addition to more dangerous situations such as fainting, chest pain, rapid heart-beat and even a heart attack.
With severe anemia, you blood count is way below the average blood count which is: 13.5 to 17.5 grams per decilitre for men and for women, 12.0 to 15.5 grams per deciliter.
One reader had severe anemia of 5-6 grams per decilitre and had to be admitted and given transfusions in the hospital. She got this type of anemia (haemolytic anemia) because of the nature of her illness. You can read about it here.
Once she was discharged, she had to take iron and folic acid supplements in addition to juices such as this beet juice.

Research shows that drinking 2 to 3 ounces of beet juice two or three times daily could be beneficial for treating anemia naturally.
This comes as no surprise because beets are LOADED with anemia-preventing nutrients!
It is a valuable source of iron, that is the number one nutrient needed for reversing anemia caused by iron depletion.
Another important nutrient found in beets that prevents and reverses iron deficiency anemia is Vitamin B12.
Beets also contain other anemia-busting nutrients such as beta carotene, potassium, phosphorous and more that makes it an excellent blood-building food.
The juice recipe below also contains other iron-rich ingredients such as apple, cucumber, carrot, lemon and dates, which all help cleanse the blood and also replace lost iron. Here are details of their benefits:
- Apples – These crunchy red fruits are rich in Vitamin C that helps increase the absorption of non-home iron like that found in fruits & veggies such as beets, dates and others.
- Cucumbers – Cucumbers contain folic acid, which is part of the B-complex vitamin group & is important in the production of red blood cells in the body.
- Carrots – These orange veggies are rich in beta carotene which helps in the absorption of non-heme iron found in fruits & veggies like beets.
- Lemons – Lemons are full of Vitamin C, which increases the absorption of non-heme iron (plant-based iron) available in beets.
