Benefits of Bone Broth
Bone broth is a centuries old superfood that is very nutrient dense! The key nutrient in it is collagen. Collagen is found in our bodies and is responsible for holding our body together like ‘glue.’
Bone broth also contains numerous other nutrients including: glutathione, glycine, proline, glucosamine, glutamine, chondroitin sulfate, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, sulphur and others.
Some of the benefits of bone broth include:
- Boosts immunity
- Repairs and heals the gut
- Protects joints
- Maintains healthy youthful skin
- Promotes detoxification
- Speeds up metabolism
- And more!
Let’s see how to make an easy flavorful bone broth below!
How to Make Bone Broth
Bone broth is very easy to make. All you need is roasted bones from beef, mutton, chicken or even fish. Next you need water, salt and spices for flavor.
Our favorite way of making bone broth is using a pressure cooker. And no, bone broth made using a pressure cooker does NOT mean it’s less nutritious than slow cooker bone broth! That’s an annoying myth to deal with in 2018.
Pressure cooking bone broth preserves all the nutrients and takes a MUCH shorter time to cook! While you can take 12-24 hours cooking bone broth in a pressure cooker, you only need 1-3 hours cooking it in a pressure cooker!
Follow the steps to make a delightfully easy and flavorful bone broth in a pressure cooker:
What you Need
- 3 pounds of roasted marrow bones/goat leg bones
- 3 tbsp raw apple cider vinegar
- 8 cups of water
- 2 onions
- 2 tomatoes
- A handful of fresh cilantro
- 2-inch piece ginger
- 8 garlic cloves
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp black peppercorns
- 1 tsp sea salt
- Large capacity pressure cooker (where to get it)
Directions
- Prepare your vegetables by peeling & washing them. Then toss them into a vegetable chopper or blender to coarsely chop them up.
- Into a pressure cooker, add the roasted bones, chopped vegetables, spices, salt and water.
- Cover the lid securely and cook on medium heat for 3 hours.
- When the time is up, wait for the pressure to release completely (it takes about 15 minutes). Pour your broth into a bowl or mug and sip away! Store the excess in mason jars in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and the freezer for up to 3 months.

You’ve sold me on bone broth…………I have a question regarding using garlic and honey mixed. Can I use minced garlic in a jar, say from Costco to mix with honey or will I lose allicin by not using fresh garlic? I would appreciate an answer. Thank you
admin says
Hello Frank,
Sorry for the late reply! It’s totally fine to use minced garlic from Costco to make your honey garlic infusion. If you’re planning on using fresh garlic, you should chop/crush the garlic and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes before mixing it with the honey for the the enzyme alliinase to convert into allicin.

You call for roasted bones. I bought beef bones from my butcher and was going to use as is. Do I need to roast the raw bones in the oven first?
admin says
Hi Jeannette, yes, roast them first 🙂

I have been making bone broth using chicken feet for the extra collagen that it contains. I make it in a crock pot with onions, celery, carrots, fresh herbs and a few tablespoons of vinegar. No salt but a little black pepper. I try.to drink 2cups a day. How long does it take to see results in joints and muscle strength?
admin says
Hi Katheline,
I’d say you’ll see results from 1-3 months of taking bone broth daily.

I can only drink a half a cup of bone broth a day because I am on a restricted fluid intake diet. Will that still give me the benefits of bone broth?
