Did you know that in the village of Huangluo in China, the average length of a woman’s hair is 6 feet? Say what?!
Their secret to this incredibly long hair is…you guessed it – rice water! They use fermented rice water like shampoo, to wash their hair.
They attribute their hair length, thickness and youthful black hair to using rice water.
Yes, they believe it’s the rice water rinses that keep them from seeing any grey hairs until they are well over 80 years old!
Benefits of Rice Water for Hair Growth & More
Here are some of the benefits of rice water for hair growth and more:
- Strengthens hair roots – The amino acids in rice water help strengthen hair roots which keeps the follicles strong hence preventing hair shedding.
- Improves hair elasticity – Using rice water helps reduce friction between hair strands and improve hair elasticity, preventing easy breakage and split ends.
- Repairs damaged hair – Rice water contains inositol, a carbohydrate that can repair damaged hair.
- Prevents premature graying – The antioxidants in rice water help fight against oxidative stress and damage to hair cells which contribute to premature gray hairs. Fermented rice water helps hair retain its natural pigment which helps hide any gray hair while preventing premature graying.
- Increases hair shine – Rinsing your hair with rice water naturally conditions it and adds a beautiful sheen to hair strands, making them look shiny and volumized.
