Are there any effective natural remedies for PCOS acne? Yes, there actually are! Here are my top 10 most effective ones to show you how to treat PCOS acne without birth control.
I suffer from PCOS acne.
It is caused by hormonal imbalance in the body so you can call it hormonal acne. PCOS acne can be found on the face, jaw, neck, back and chest. For me, it appears on the face, jaw and neck.
When I was first diagnosed with PCOS, I was given birth control pills to help with the irregular and heavy bleeding.
It was during the time I got my period twice a month, with a three day break in between.
While taking the birth control, I was still having a bit of spotting.
I don’t think the birth control helped me control my acne or irregular periods and so I went cold turkey.
I just stopped taking the birth control and started using natural remedies.
Now?
I don’t get the awful big pus-filled spot on my face anymore. But I still have jawline acne which is improving a LOT because of natural remedies! [Must Read: Top 20 Effective Natural Remedies for PCOS]
So let’s get onto the list of my top 10 natural remedies for PCOS acne. Here’s how to treat PCOS acne without birth control pills!
How to Treat PCOS Acne without Birth Control – My Top 10 Remedies
1. Tea Tree Oil
Get your hands on a bottle of tea tree oil because it is magic for acne of all sorts. Tea tree oil, also known as melaleuca oil, is a powerful antiseptic and astringent. You can apply it directly on acne using a Q-tip, which is what I do most times. But I also like to make a foaming tea tree face wash with it. Here’s how to make it:
- Tea Tree Foaming Face Wash: Get a 8 oz foaming pump bottle then fill it ¼ way with Dr. Bronner’s Baby Unscented Castile Soap. Next, add 5 drops of tea tree essential oil and 3 drops of lavender essential oil. Now top the bottle with organic rose water and stir the contents with a glass rod. Or handle of a long spoon. To use, pump foam on your palm and lather up. Rinse and voila! Fresh face!
2. Aloe Vera
Now aloe vera gel is one of the most soothing products on the planet. It is absolutely wonderful for cooling down painful and inflamed acne. What I do is mix pure organic aloe vera gel with distilled water and use it as a spray on my face.
I also use Dr Organic Aloe Vera Gel with Tea Tree and Arnica right before applying moisturizer. It is super healthy for hormonal PCOS acne.
Drinking aloe vera juice is now a part of my daily routine. Aloe vera helps with detoxifying your body early in the morning. I take 1 tsp of aloe vera juice in a cup of hot water, with 1 tsp apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp raw honey and ¼ tsp ground cinnamon.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Drink
I’ve mentioned my daily morning detox drink recipe above. It contains apple cider vinegar which is full of probiotics that are great for balancing the good bacteria in your body. Here’s the link to my Easy Apple Cider Vinegar Recipe for Weight Loss. I’ve started adding 1 tsp aloe vera juice to it.
Apple cider vinegar is great as a facial toner as well, when mixed with water (I part ACV with 3 parts water).
4. Black Seed Oil Anti-Acne Moisturizer
Black seed oil is a powerful acne-fighter when it comes to my PCOS acne. It is a very good moisturizer that doesn’t leave skin feeling greasy. It kills bacteria that causes pus-filled acne and keeps your skin looking plump and healthy at the same time.
It also contains linoleic acid which is good for acne sufferers. Those with oily skin and acne tend to have low linoleic acid levels in their skin which causes sticky and greasy sebum to be produced. This kind of sebum clogs pores and breaks your skin out.
Massage 3 drops of black seed oil on your clean face after toning.
5. Green Smoothies
Green smoothies are great breakfast options if you’re wondering what to eat for breakfast when you have PCOS.
The leafy greens or green superfoods you add in are rich in phytonutrients and antioxidants that are great for balancing your body’s internal environment. Add spinach, lettuce, kale, spirulina, chlorella and other leafy greens to your smoothie. Check out my 3 Best Green Smoothies for PCOS
6. Drinking Lots of Water
You’ve heard it before and I’ll say it again, drinking lots of water is key to keeping your acne under control. It keeps your whole body, including skin, hydrated.
Water also improves bowel movements which keeps yout system free from harmful wastes and toxins that cause breakouts.
7. Raw Honey
Raw honey is useful both internally and externally when it comes to healing PCOS acne. Take 1 tsp of raw honey in the morning with warm water. Add 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp of aloe vera juice and ¼ tsp ground cinnamon.
You can also use raw honey to wash your face! Just wet your face, massage ½ to 1 tsp of raw honey on it for a few seconds then rinse off!
8. Witch Hazel Toner
Toning your face is very important when you’re dealing with any kind of acne. You can use any kind of toner of your preference such as lavender hydrosol, rose water, apple cider vinegar mixed with water, but my favorites are Aloe vera (as I mentioned above) and of course, witch hazel.
It keeps skin oil-free and reduces large pores while drying up the acne so it heals faster. Dab witch hazel toner on your face after cleansing it.
Or, spray witch hazel hydrosol on your face after moisturizing with black seed oil or argan oil then pat dry for a dewy non-greasy look.
9. Maca Powder
Maca powder is a superfood for PCOS! It helps with menstrual troubles, infertility and hormone imbalance. It is a must-have superfood in your pantry when you’re suffering from PCOS acne, infertility, weight gain, unwanted hair growth and more.
I usually add 1 tsp of maca powder into my smoothies. You can also take maca root capsules which may be easier for you.
10. Sipping Green Tea
Green tea is known to promote youthful skin. It also aids in weight loss and helps with insulin sensitivity which most PCOS sufferers deal with.
Sipping green tea helps flush toxins out of the body which helps control PCOS acne. Replace coffee/tea with green tea helps improve your overall PCOS symptoms.
