What is Candida?
Candida is a natural occurring yeast that exists in small amounts on the surface of the skin, mouth, throat, intestines and vagina.
Everybody has it and it’s harmless in normal amounts. However, when it starts growing out of control due to a number of reasons including excess alcohol consumption, prolonged antibiotic use, eating too many sugary foods and a weakened immune system, then is when it becomes harmful. Too much candida in the body leads to candidiasis or yeast infection.
What Makes Apple Cider Vinegar Good for Candida?
Apple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar made from fermented apple juice. It is hailed as a miracle cure for almost any ailment out there.
Multiplies Good Bacteria in the Body
What makes it special is that it contains helpful bacteria that replenish the body’s supply of good bacteria.
Good bacteria are necessary for a healthy body. Without a good supply of this bacteria, your immune system will be weakened and susceptible to disease including yeast infection! It also keeps the level of candida in your body in control. If your population of good bacteria in the body is low, then it will not be sufficient in keeping candida from overgrowing, which causes candidiasis.
Balances the Body’s pH
Another special benefit of apple cider vinegar is that restores the pH balance in the body by creating an alkalizing environment. This encourages beneficial bacteria to multiply and overthrow candida. Candida thrives in an acidic environment, which is caused by poor dietary habits like alcohol consumption, eating too many processed foods and consuming large amounts of sugar.
Apple cider vinegar may be acidic tasting but when it goes into the body, it actually alkalizes the blood. Other alkalizing foods include yogurt, fresh fruits, dark leafy greens, vegetables, nuts, seeds and organic chicken.
How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar to Treat Candida
There are two ways of using apple cider vinegar to treat candida. One is internally, and the other is externally.
Internally
Take 2 tbsp of organic raw apple cider vinegar in 8oz of water three times a day: one in an empty stomach first thing in the morning, the second just before lunch and the last shot in the evening before dinner. Wait 30 minutes before consuming anything else. Make sure to use a straw (preferably metal) to prevent the acid from affecting your teeth. If you find the taste of ACV too overpowering, you may add a little freshly squeezed lemon juice.
You can also drink little shots of apple cider vinegar throughout the day like 1 tsp of it with ¼ cup of water.
Externally
Note: This will provide relief from vaginal yeast infections. Please use low amounts of apple cider vinegar because you do not want to burn yourself.
Fill a bathtub with warm water then add ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar. Mix well and soak in it for at least 15 minutes.
In a sitz bath filled with warm water, add about 1-2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar and sit in it for as long as you want for relief.
